Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) Predictive Model

Chilkat Environmental has been active in understanding and teaching courses addressing paralytic shellfish poisoning and other harmful algal blooms. In 2014 Chilkat was contracted by the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association to identify and assemble statewide PSP data including; deaths, illness and blooms to contrast with oceanographic data such as tide and wind for the purpose of predictive modeling.  A second contract requested Chilkat Environmental to identify and assemble statewide PSP data on marine mammals, marine birds and fish in Alaska. Bruce Wright has been leading PSP research in Alaska for over 15 years and Elijah coordinated weeklong university courses on the subject about 10 years ago and since 2006 has been designing and conducting research from remote sites in Haines and the Aleutian Islands.  This project is coordinated with our good friend and respected colleague Ray RaLonde, Alaska’s State Aquaculture Specialist. Several harmful algal bloom investigations are currently underway.
