Summer of 2014 Chilkat prepared necessary permits and worked with locals to hand excavate 180 feet of buried drums connected end to end forming a culvert under a former military hospital.  After an environmental sampling project determining the creek was not contaminated Bruce and Elijah identified the culvert blocking salmon passage. The Tribe prioritized removal and Chilkat determined manual excavation had the least impacts.  We really enjoyed the week of shoveling, made friends and restored half a mile of silver salmon habitat. Project funded by Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program.  Client reference is Atka Tribal Administrator Oleana Nelson. This was a super fun project.
