Chilkoot Lumber Company- Contaminated Soil Remediation

Chilkat Environmental constructed a contaminated soil stockpile in 2008 from diesel and hydraulic oil contaminated soil. The stockpile was engineered to drain water from the originally saturated soil through a collection system with pumps and filters. By 2015 three lifts had been performed and the soil had been remediated to a fraction of the cleanup level. The final lift was below cleanup levels but was a large volume of soil. To deter potential cumulative impacts to the ocean from unrestricted use Chilkat engineered an improved driveway for tractor-trailer access from the Lutak Highway and contained the soil away from surface water and entombed it in clean fill. This completed the management of 10,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil at the site with no shipping required.
